Assistant Store Manager, Bourton on the Water, Full time, Permanent

Job Description

Assistant Store Manager

Salary: £25,745.00-£26,409.00 per annum.

Job Summary

The Assistant Store Manager holds overall responsibility for every aspect of running the store in the absence of the Store Manager– managing and motivating the sales team, delivering sales, managing livestock, achieving KPI’s and providing outstanding customer service. You are also responsible for ensuring all process is followed correctly and that communication with Head Office is timely and appropriate. A key aspect of your role is to support the Store Manager in building and developing a strong team with succession potential by providing necessary training. You report directly to the Store Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Store Operations

Ensure that staff are at the store a minimum of 15 minutes before it is due to open and be ready to trade at the specified time

Support the store manager in ensuring the team adhere to all health and safety and fire safety regulations daily

Ensure all staff are present and ready for work on time in the correct uniform – as per company policy

Work with the store team to maintain store standards: The working day does not end until the store is in a presentable condition for the next day’s trading, the tills are cashed up and all end of day procedures are complete

It is your responsibility to support the store manager in ensuring all back of house areas – including storeroom, office, kitchen, toilet, livestock isolation and holding rooms are clean and well-presented throughout the day

Staffing, staff training and motivation

You are responsible for supporting the store manager in organising the staffing in your store and that there is always appropriate cover.

In the absence of the store manager you may need to deal with any staff grievances that arise and escalate these to Store Manager if appropriate

You are required to work with the store manager to induct new staff effectively

In the absence of the store manager you are responsible for ensuring that the payroll element of your rota is completely up to date; this includes sickness, holidays, and lieu time

You must always support the store manager in maintaining discipline with the staff this includes:

o Time keeping

o Appearance

o Duties and tasks

o Taking appropriate disciplinary action


Customer service

Ensure that all customers are acknowledged by a staff member when they enter the store

Ensure that all customers are engaged with a friendly open-ended approach within a reasonable amount of time or when displaying buying signals

Deal with customer complaints in a professional manner and resolve where possible without escalation

Deliver outstanding customer service by promoting a pro-active, helpful, and friendly attitude among the staff

Ensure that sales staff do not eat, chew gum, or use personal mobile phones on the shop floor, or have wallets or purses on their person

Ensure staff do not smoke in the vicinity of the store or in sight of customers

You are always expected to lead by example

Merchandising & standards

You are required to work with the store manager, to maintain excellent standards of presentation and cleanliness in the shop at all times, in line with the store layout sheet.

Work with the store manager to ensure the store is merchandised in accordance with planograms and merchandising guidelines. Stock is not to be moved outside of plan unless specifically approved by your line manager

Stock on the shelves should be replenished, dusted, and tidied throughout the day

If the stock levels look incorrect after stock checking, you should report any under or overstock to the merchandising team

Shelf label prices must be checked daily. All windows, displays and cabinets must be maintained daily and all items must have correct POS and be priced

It is your responsibility to ensure all livestock is managed and cared for in line with our animal welfare policy and to report any issues to the store manager

Security

Always maintain a high-level of security awareness – and ensure staff are vigilant .

Always ensure that the team adhere to company loss prevention procedures

Administration

Where required support the store manager in completing paperwork and administrative tasks on time as per company guidelines

In the absence of the store manager, variances and banking issues must be dealt with as per company guidelines

You must ensure that you work with the store manager to deliver thorough preparation for stocktakes and that procedure is adhered to rigorously at every stage.

Attend store meetings and contribute to planning and the implementation of new company initiatives.

Health and Safety

Health and safety guidelines are there for your own protection and for the safety of your staff and customers. It must always therefore be adhered to, in line with the Health and safety manual.

Support the store manager in ensuring that all staff are correctly inducted and made aware of the company’s Health and Safety procedures

You must ensure all colleagues and customers adhere to these procedures

Personal Development

You may be asked to work in different stores to aid your own personal development

Training will be provided for you from time to time which you will be expected to attend

You are required to identify and work on your own training needs

Flexibility

In order to maintain the smooth running of the shop at all times, a degree of flexibility is required in the role. As assistant store manager you may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above and work unusual hours.
