Pettex Silica Litter is made from a naturally occurring earth mineral. also called silica, or silica sand. It is both chemically and biologically inert and completely non-toxic to pets and humans. Silica is used as a food additive in such products as beer, salt substitutes and dry coffee creamers. Pettex Silica Litter has an extremely high absorption level and can absorb its own weight in liquid, this is a result of having many thousands of micro pores in each granule. These micro pores instantly absorb moisture on contact, with in seconds any quantity of urine is absorbed and locked in to the granules. By locking in the urine immediately this inhibits any bacterial activity that usually creates odours and unwanted smells. The concentrate urine is retained with in the granules, but the water content is allowed to evaporate off, this means that each granule becomes dry again and continues to work actively with in the tray. Pettex Silica Litter will also act upon the cat's stools by drying out the droppings, making the tray area far more hygienic for your cat. If your cat suffers occasionally diarrhoea this is not a problem as the granules will gradually absorb the moisture from the waste and will reduce any odour. Our “chunk” style granules are sized to eliminate the messy tracking associated with many standard type or “pearled” litters. The “chunk” style granules reduce tracking and in turn make the tray area a more hygiene place for both you and your cat. As our litter is made from a natural product you can dig it in to the soil, add it to your compost heap or put in with your household waste. The granules will completely biodegrade back into the earth in about four weeks. When using the product we would recommend the following guidelines : One bag may last the average cat one month under ordinary circumstances. With two cats, use one bag of Pettex Silica Litter and change it about every two weeks, with three cats, use one bag of Pettex Silica Litter and change it every ten days, with four cats, use one bag of Pettex Silica Litter every week. It is not advisable to use two bags at a time to last two cats one month, but it is better to replenish the tray with new litter as advised above.
